Looking to explore nature and get active during your stay in one of our Narragansett beachfront summer rentals? You’re in luck!

There are tons of beautiful places to explore right down the road. Here are a few of our favorite hiking trails and green spaces in and around Narragansett.

Newport RI Cliff Walk

Newport Cliff Walk near Narragansett

Located along the eastern shorelines of Historic Newport (just 20 minutes away from Narragansett), you’ll find the Cliff Walk, designated as a National Recreational Trail in 1975. Here, you’ll find 3.5 miles of trails, with more challenging areas toward the southern half of the walk and easier paths in the northern half. Your journey will take you through the National Historic District and show you all kinds of beautiful birds, flowers, water views, and more. A 20-minute drive to this destination is more than worth it!

Canonchet Trail

If you want a hike with a truly spectacular view, there’s no better place than Canonchet Trail. This is a 2.6-mile trail out-and-back with just 62 feet of elevation gain, meaning that hikers young and old can easily navigate. While this trail can get a bit muddy when it rains, it’s usually a beautiful spot featuring absolutely breathtaking views of the nearby spring and the forests and farmland nearby. Those who enjoy birdwatching, in particular, won’t want to miss a visit to this trail, where you can spot ospreys, egrets, Canada geese, and more!

Black Point Trailhead

A hike along Black Point Trail is one of the best things to do in Narragansett if you’re traveling with pets, since dogs (on leashes) are more than welcome here! You and your family can navigate this 2.1-mile trail with ease and see incredible wildlife all around you. This trail is suitable for all ages and skill levels, which means it can get a bit crowded at times. Best of all, this trail leads you right to the shores of Scarborough State Beach, so you can take a quick dip in the water or simply enjoy the view after your hike.

King/Benson Preserve

The rocky beach at Narragansett Rhode Island

Head 10 minutes from Narragansett to Saunderstown to find King/Benson Preserve, offering just over 3 miles of trail through varied terrain and breathtaking sights around every corner. You’ll be taken past the Narrow River, through the forest and wetland areas, and over boardwalk footbridges to navigate the waters. Dogs are more than welcome here, as long as you keep them on a leash. If it’s been raining when you decide to visit, just be sure to watch your step, as it can get a bit muddy and slippery along the trail.

Narragansett Trail

If you’re searching for a longer hike, head to Narragansett Trail. You’ll have 15.4 miles of trail to explore! This out-and-back trail is rated as “moderate,” so it’s great for adults or families that are a bit experienced with hiking already. Narragansett Trail is moderately trafficked and is another great place for dog owners to bring their furry friends. As you hike, you’ll be rewarded with gorgeous views of the waters and the forests around every turn.

Beavertail Trail

Beavertail Lighthouse near Narragansett

This 2.3-mile loop trail is the perfect spot for those who love the water, since there’s a stunning river running right next to the trail! All skill levels can handle this relatively easy hike, but follow the trail carefully since there aren’t any markings. As you hike, you’ll discover a number of outlooks and hidden coves and will be rewarded with some absolutely stunning views of the lighthouse. Hikers have reported that this trail can get muddy no matter the season, so just watch your step!
