Activities to Enjoy During the Holidays in Narragansett, Rhode Island

A holiday getaway to Narragansett, Rhode Island, promises lots of fun activities in addition to top-notch Narragansett vacation rentals to make your off-season trip as magical as the season itself.

Among things to do in Narragansett for the holidays include a street fair, a 5K run, and ice-skating opportunities. These are, of course, in addition to the many Narragansett activities available year-round, such as a state park, lighthouse, campground, museum, the historic Towers at the site of the old Narragansett Pier Casino, fishing charters, and a long list of fine and casual restaurants.

Holidays are a fun time in Narragansett, from by-the-sea fireworks at the Fourth of July to various Halloween, Thanksgiving, and other events marking the fall celebrations.

This fall, for example, you can look for the Pumpkin Festival on October 15th with paint-a-pumpkin, bouncy house, kiddie obstacle course, reptile adventure, and spooky tunes, and the 9th Annual Scarecrows in the Pier, a build-it-yourself event with trophies awarded.

Let’s take a closer look at the winter holiday events in Narragansett, conveniently situated close to many Narragansett beach rentals, so you can choose how to inject as much holiday cheer as possible into your late-season vacation to this beautiful Rhode Island destination.

Holiday Street Faire

Following an incredible 2021 event, the 2022 Holiday Street Faire, to be held on Saturday, December 3rd (with a snow date of December 4th) promises to match and even outdo the prior celebration.

There will likely be much more of the same as featured at the 2021 Faire: an Artisan Barn with more than 40 vendors selling locally made creations such as sculptures, glass figures, jewelry, and beach items for truly unique gift-giving experiences in addition to baked goods and pet treats; an outdoor Village featuring photo ops with Santa, carolers made up of Narragansett high, middle, elementary school choruses, and food trucks; and live music from area bands from late morning until early evening!

If you’re a singer, don’t miss the chance to show your skills with Christmas Karaoke. Want to create a unique gift for a loved one or make a one-of-a-kind souvenir? They’ll have holiday craft-making for you to enjoy. Kids are sure to enjoy the face painting station, and if you want to inject some holiday cheer into the beginning of your day, don’t miss the Breakfast with Santa on the morning of December 4th.

Be sure to stop by the Warming Lodge for snacks, seasonal drinks, and some Holiday Faire commemorative items.

The Faire has free parking and trolleys running from the established parking lots. It’s easy to get from your car to the fun in no time at all.

Jingle Bell Run

If you’re interested in running, you’ll love the holiday-themed Narragansett Chamber of Commerce Jingle Bell Run on Narragansett Town Beach.

Just as Santa himself cannot be deterred by the weather when making his rounds on Christmas Eve, this sanctioned, timed 5K run takes place rain or shine. Guests of all ages are welcome to join in. In addition to the 5K, there is a 1-Mile Family Fun Walk for those who want to participate but prefer something casual.

The run, occurring at low tide, is part of the town’s Festival of Lights Celebration, held the first Sunday in December (December 4th this year). The celebration includes a tree lighting and fireworks.

Running in Santa hats or a holiday-themed costume is welcome and encouraged. Dogs love the holiday, too, and can join you on this enjoyable outing.

Drinks, food, and entertainment are part of the celebration and are found at the North Beach Clubhouse before and after the Jingle Bell 5k Run. The tree lighting is followed by fireworks! This event is an all-day celebration of the holiday season and will provide unforgettable memories for all who attend.

The 5K Run and Festival of Lights Celebration are made possible by the Narragansett Chamber of Commerce.

Skating at the Community Ice Rink

You might be hesitant to get outside much during the winter, but there are plenty of activities you can enjoy in the cold. Some sports, like skiing or snowboarding, may be too intense for some, but ice skating is a hobby nearly everyone can enjoy.

The new, synthetic community ice skating rink, introduced with 2020 state “Take It Outside” grant funds and a late push of community donations was gifted to the Narragansett community by the Narragansett Chamber of Commerce in May 2021. Now you can take advantage of the new ice rink on your vacation!

Located at 170 Clarke Road at the Department of Parks and Recreation property, the rink offers year-round skating due to its artificial “never melts” surface—but what better time to take advantage than during the holidays?

Bring your own skates! Christmas music and food trucks are often on hand to complete your experience.

Other holiday events in Narragansett and holiday Narragansett activities slated for the 2022/2023 season include:
